Layne joined the Gordon Veterinary Hospital nursing team in 2001 and holds the position of Head Veterinary Nurse. It was a last minute decision to go for the job and she hasn’t looked back since!
Coming from a retail background working as a manager in a department store for 4 years, Layne’s customer service and people management skills have always been exceptional.
Layne has experience looking after both small and large animals having spent many holidays on her relative’s farm near Dubbo. Her jobs included looking after 6 dogs and numerous cats, nursing abandoned lambs, cleaning troughs in the feedlot for hundreds of cattle.
Layne still visits the farm occasionally which is now a successful piggery and she still loves slopping through the mud whilst the pigs chew at her gum boots!
It was on the farm that Layne realised her passion for animals and knew that she wanted to work with pets. Layne has held the position of Head Veterinary Nurse since 2004, which has been an achievement for her. The practice has benefitted greatly from having such a friendly, motivated and innovative head nurse. Layne is always coming up with ideas to improve the service we give our clients and is one of the reasons why we have such a happy team of staff here.
Layne took a break from her nursing career in 2006 when she spent 6 months travelling through Asia, Europe and Africa, living and working for 3 months in Ireland in a veterinary hospital.
Layne is currently enrolled in the Veterinary Nurse Manager course through Crampton Consulting and is a registered Pet Slimmers Advisor through Hills Pet Nutrition. She owns 4 little white fluffy dogs at home, which like all mums, thinks they are superstars as well as a lorikeet called Wilson (named after the soccer ball in Castaway).
