DR DAVID OWEN BVSc

David was born in Wales and moved permanently to Australia at a young age. He grew up locally and graduated with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science from the University of Sydney in 1976. Starting work at Gordon Veterinary Hospital in 1981, we are lucky to have had David as our weekend and after-hours emergency vet ever since! Most Sydney practices rely on alternative 24 hour facilities to cover their emergencies after hours. Clients are very thankful that David is available for this important role and for this reason the staff at Gordon Vets consider him an invaluable member of our team.

Given his extensive experience, David is highly skilled in emergency, critical care and trauma management in cats and dogs. Throughout his years as an emergency veterinarian, David has come across many interesting and unusual cases, including snake envenomations, hundreds of tick paralysis cases and the inadvertent ingestion of high doses of human medications, which has lead to toxicity. Careful storage of pharmaceuticals is vital to keep your pet safe.

Being a very low handicapper at Roseville Golf Club, David is a big fan of golf, enjoys a good book and is also a keen amateur astronomer.

David’s veterinary interests are in the field of accident and emergency medicine, especially tick paralysis treatment. Many clients have been grateful for having David available to help out with problems with their pets at odd hours, day and night, over the years.
