DR DAVID LONERAGAN BVSc, MACVSc (Feline Medicine), AQIS-accred
David grew up locally in Killara but spent most of his holidays when young on a cattle property near Rylstone where his love for animals developed.
After graduating from the University of Sydney in 1980 he worked in a busy hospital at Forestville, Sydney, for three years before embarking on a two year working holiday in the south of England.
On returning from the U.K. he started work at the Gordon Veterinary Hospital with Tim Hawcroft & Peter Roach and has been here ever since! He became a partner in 1987.
After completing a year of intensive study, David became a Member of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists in Feline Medicine. This makes David our primary vet for complicated feline problems. David has also completed a year’s post-graduate study in radiology as well as diagnostic ultrasound, which is a modern and non-invasive means of diagnosing many internal diseases in cats and dogs. Ultrasound in some cases can be an alternative to more invasive surgical techniques in gaining diagnostic information. David’s extensive experience in these fields has enabled our patients to receive the absolute highest standards in veterinary diagnostic medicine on site. We are lucky to have David’s skills on site, as most other practices need to refer elsewhere for an experienced ultrasound operator.
His other veterinary interests are in cardiology, dermatology and ophthalmology.
David is an accredited Australian Quarantine Service veterinarian which means he performs the veterinary tasks required before animals are sent overseas.

David’s professional yet very approachable, positive demeanour and helpful, caring attitude towards his clients and patients make him extremely popular with our clients and all of the staff. His interests outside of work include playing golf, working on the family beef cattle property and spending as much time as possible with his family.
David has seen great changes in companion animal care over the last 25 years and has been instrumental in the development of Gordon Veterinary Hospital as one of the top animal healthcare facilities in Sydney. David aims to keep on providing the highest level of care to his patients for many years to come.
