Angela started working at Gordon Veterinary Hospital in December 2001 and is our most experienced veterinary surgical nurse on the team. She has a close connection with the practice, starting straight after finishing high school with weekend work as a ward nurse. She started work full time here in mid-2002.
Since starting at GVH, Angela has managed to broaden her veterinary nursing skills in every way possible. Her skill sets include advanced surgical theatre nursing, anaesthetic monitoring, staff management and nurse training programs. She has completed TAFE Certificates 2, 3 and 4 in Veterinary Nursing, Hills Pet Nutrition courses and surgical anaesthetic monitoring.
In July 2008, she passed the Advanced Veterinary Nursing Technician course (12 months). There are very few veterinary nurses in Australia with this qualification and we are lucky to have one of them working with us at Gordon Vets. This has helped raise the standard of nursing care for the animals to an exceptional level.
More recently, Angela has begun training in cytology and microscopy, including reading diagnostic microscope slides in skin and ear disease. She has also been trained in positional radiography.
Her position as Deputy Head Veterinary Nurse has been well deserved and through her exceptional people skills as well as her nursing experience, she acts as a mentor for the nurses in training.
Angela, known as “Ange” to her friends at work, has an optimistic approach to her work and an excellent problem-solving mind. She is always willing to offer a helping hand with a smile and her gentle, reassuring nature reflects on the way the animals respond to her.
In her spare time, Angela loves renovating her house, bush walking, hiking and the beach. She is also a keen snowboarder and enjoys travelling. Her most memorable trip was her 10 month journey around Australia which she describes as “amazing”. She has also travelled to Europe and the UK.
In 2007, Angela hand-reared a kitten called Meeka, who had been brought in as a dumped stray and now Meeka lives at home with her. Unfortunately Meeka’s personality isn’t quite as gentle as Ange’s!
